The Cleanlist deceased database is updated weekly and includes 90% to 100% coverage of deceased individuals in English-speaking Canada (penetration varies somewhat by region). Deaths are typically reported to Cleanlist within 7 days, keeping the database highly current. Date-of-birth, as well as name and location data are collected for high confidence matching. Currently, the Cleanlist database contains a history of over 1 million deceased Canadians with approximately 4,000 being added weekly. According to Statistics Canada, there are approximately 250,000 deaths each year with approximately 200,000 residing in English-speaking Canada.
Why Identify Deceased Contacts? For Direct Marketers and Fundraisers, deceased identification increases return-on-investment and response rates, saves resources and environmental waste, and avoids complaints by not offending surviving family members. Although all contact lists may contain deceased individuals and should be scrubbed prior to campaign execution, programs targeting senior citizens, retired individuals or mature communities have a higher proportion of deceased contact records and should always be run regularly against a deceased suppression service.
For Financial Institutions and related industries, the ability to quickly identify deceased individuals can lead to reduced delinquency rates, less fraud, and prompt account closure and wrap-up.
